Myths related to teeth..

Hi guys this is  Dr Sourav Malhotra ( Dental Surgeon) and this blog is about the MYTHS that are related to out teeth.  I hope that you guys will like my blog and do comment about it.. Thanks

MYTH              There is no need in seeing a dentist if your teeth
                         looks healthy.

TRUTH          You must see a dental surgeon twice a year, no
matter in what condition your teeth are .
Sometimes only a dental surgeon can see
possible problem and it is always better to visit
a dental surgeon in every six months..

MYTH            Eating a lot of chocolate
                       can damage your teeth.

TRUTH         No it does not ,but if you do not brush
your teeth or at least rinse your mouth
every time after eating chocolate you
are at much higher risk to get tooth decay.

MYTH            Brushing with salt whitens your teeth

TRUTH         Salt is abrasive and could harm your tooth enamel
as well as your gums. The dentin( i.e) tooth’s inner
layer and is yellow in color. Removal of tooth
enamel will make your teeth look yellow  and
                      it’ll make your tooth sensitive….

MYTH           If I place an aspirin tablet  besides
my tooth, it’ll let go off the pain..

TRUTH        Aspirin can be taken orally to alleviate
the pain. it contains acetylsalicylic acid
and this causes chemical burn on the gum
tissues. Place a powdered clove or apply
natural analgesics such as a few drops of
clove oil or tea tree oil that will help in
reducing tooth ache. Too much of clove oil
                   also might burn your gums.

MYTH             Flossing can widen the
                        gaps between the tooth.

TRUTH          Flossing could cause
                        gaps between teeth
only if it is done incorrectly. The
correct method of flossing is to holding
the floss tautly between your thumbs and
index fingers, slide it gently up and down
between your teeth.. Never snap or force the
floss, as this may cut or bruise delicate gum
                        tissue.

MYTH               More I brush, better my teeth would be.

TRUTH            Brushing for long periods of time is not good for your teeth.
The tooth enamel will wear out because of the extended
brushing duration and in the long run this will
cause tooth sensitivity. Limit  your brushing time to
2- 3 minutes and brush twice a day.
